Farewell Friends

Farewell Friends   My time in this course has come to an end, which means this will be my last blog.   I have had a wonderful experience writing for you all every week and I may write blogs again in the future if time permits.   Throughout the duration of the course, I had learned many different lessons in leadership and media.   A lot of which I was able to share with you every week.                   One of my favorite takeaways from this course was from Drew Dudley’s TED Talk here .   He started the talk by asking the audience, “How many of you are completely comfortable with calling yourselves a leader?”   This question took the audience back and not as many hands went up as one would think.   I just wanted to leave my las blog as a reminder to everyone that you are a leader.   You are a leader whether you think so are not.   Most people are looke...

Good morning readers, I hope this week’s blog finds you well during the holidays.  Have you ever thought to yourself, why do companies have campaigns?  Are they effective? What are they trying to accomplish?  How are they made?  Luckily for you we are going to be focusing on Public Relation campaigns this week.  First, we will discuss what a PR campaign is and why it is important for organizations.  Secondly, we will look at some helpful tips for creating a campaign for your company.  Lastly, we will study the importance of measuring the effectiveness of a PR campaign.     What is a PR campaign?  Sandford answers that question in their article here , “A PR campaign is a series of planned and organized activities that run over a period of time to positively promote the perception of a business and communicate key messages. There are many different types of PR campaigns, but most will consist of sev...

Reputation and Responsibility

Good afternoon!   I hope this blog finds you well.   This week we will be looking at crisis management, the good and the bad.   Starting with what crisis management is and why it is important.   We will also look at two case studies and compare the differences between them.   The first crisis that will be discussed is Toyota’s sudden acceleration crisis and the impact on their reputation.   The second case study will be on Johnson & Johnson’s Tylenol crisis.    The reason I chose these to crisis to analyze is because in both cases lives were on the line.   Then we will discuss the differences and lessons learned from these crises.   It is common knowledge that nobody is perfect.  This sentiment is true for organizations as well.  Unfortunately, companies will face a crisis at some point in their lives.  How they handle this crisis can set them apart from the competitors.  To understand how to handle a PR ...

Advertising in a Tech Savy World

Hello again, hope this blog finds you well this holiday season.  This week we will be discussing advertisement in today's ever-changing society.  With technology advancing on a daily basis, the way we think about advertising needs to keep up to those changes.  People spend a significant portion of their day scrolling social media or surfing the internet.  It is important for advertisements to reach people of all demographics across the massive internet and use the best technology to do so.  We often see countless ads will on the computer many of them just get ignored.  One way to make your ad stand out amongst the rest is to keep them simple and to the point.  We will finally discuss the different medias for advertisers and how to use them. It is no secret that the Internet has changed the landscape for advertising.  Josh Howarth says in his blog here , “According to recent data, the average person spends 3 hours and 1...

Visions and Who Has Them

Good morning readers.   I hope you have enjoyed the past four blogs in this series.   Today we are going to be discussing visionary leadership.   I have a lot of thoughts on visionary leadership that I would like to share with you today.   Then we talk through what a vision is and why do people want it for their leaders.   We will then look at some case studies that shed a light on leaders and their visions and how they came to succeed in today’s world.   I personally have a lot of thoughts on visionary leadership.  I think a vital tool for leaders to have is a vision.  A vision sets up an organization for the future.  A vision and a dream are very similar, especially in that there are no limits for either.  Some people may mock your dreams or visions but as a leader we must not give anyone the power of our dreams.  I think that most people have a vision for the trajectory of their lives, what makes a leader st...

Leadership: Who, What, Why, How

Good morning readers, and welcome back to week four of my blog.   This week we are going to be discussing leadership.   Who are leaders in the world today?   What are some emerging challenges for leaders?   Why social media is becoming a very useful tool to communicate?   Finally, how do leaders communicate to their subordinates and how to use different mediums to do so? These are just a few questions that are going to be answered this week.   When someone is asked to name a leader what do we usually hear in response?   They will often give names like, the President, the CEO, or other historical figures.   In Drew Dudley’s Ted Talk here  he says, “I've come to realize that we have made leadership into something bigger than us; something beyond us. We've made it about changing the world.”   Leadership is something every single person is capable of and without knowing it practices on a daily basis.   Drew Dudley's goal with h...

Who Needs Branding?

Image
Hello readers! This week we will be discussing personal branding, what it is and why it is important in today’s world.   Personal branding can make or break your reputation and possibly your career.   Then we will walk through a few tips on how to build your personal brand; the first being fining your purpose behind your brand, secondly how you will get that message across, and finally how to share your story in a way that people or consumers will be left wanting more. What is personal branding?   Gary Vaynerchuk wrote in his article here , “Your personal brand is your reputation, and your reputation in perpetuity is the foundation of your career.”   Coming from the south, we are told at a very young age that a man’s reputation is all that he has.   It is of the upmost importance to have a good reputation and be someone that others can depend on.   I think this also applies to creating your own personal brand, it is really all you have.   When...
